Promoting Inner Peace, Meditation and Mental Health in Zimbabwe

Please join our next meeting via Zoom for a talk on “Promoting Inner Peace, Meditation and Mental Health in Zimbabwe” by Mirriam Madzima Makwembere.

Mirriam is a Zimbabwean woman and a professional social worker specializing in trauma counseling. She has 22 years of experience working with people of all age groups and social backgrounds affected by distress and presenting with complex needs. Her experience has the invaluable element of empathy derived from growing up witnessing and enduring hardship and emotional suffering. Mirriam was selected by The Rotary Foundation of Harare, to study towards a Professional Development Certificate in Peace and Conflict Management Program, from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

She has worked as a trauma counselor, a youth development coordinator, and life skills trainer at Young Africa Skills Center Zimbabwe, a program manager at the United Nations Development Fund, and as a social support counselor at the Zimbabwe AIDS Prevention and Support Organization.

Mirriam holds a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Counselling, Diploma in Family Systemic Therapy from Connect (Institute of Systemic Therapy), Social Work from Women’s University Africa, and Professional Development Certificate in Peace and Conflict Resolution from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. She is a Rotary Peace Fellow and a registered member of the Council of Social Workers. She also trained in Palliative Care Counselling with Island Hospice Harare and volunteers her services to the organization on request.
